PolySail International

High Performance/Low Cost Sails for Small Sailboats

PDRacer/PolySail Products

World’s largest supplier of polytarp sails and kits.

Our motto: “Buy low; live slow; sail fast!”

PolySail International has been offering PolySail Kits and custom sail construction for 16 years. We probably know more about making polytarp sails than anyone else, having made hundreds of all different types. A PolySail International balanced lug sail powered the current PDRacer World Champion Brad Hickman to victory in Lucky Duck.

The discounted prices below for championship quality PolySails are valid only through April 2012.

We currently offer three different types of packages/kits to meet the needs of PDRacers.

§         FINISHED POLYSAILS are individually constructed, sewn sails that we carry in inventory or construct for you. We are currently offering a significant discount to PDRacer owners and builders whose boats have an assigned hull number. Currently we offer a 60 sq. ft. Leg ‘O Mutton that fits many standard PDRacers, a 65 sq. ft. lateen for John Welsford’s Kiwi, and an 69 sq. ft. lateen for Jim Michalak’s Catbox. These white sails are available in white with seven reinforcement trim colors, including royal blue, bright red, forest green, leather brown, duck yellow, black, and plain white (default color). Include your color choice when you submit your order for this sail. We now also offer solid color sails in Racing Red, Duck Yellow, Blaze Orange, and Snakeskin Green with the same trim color alternatives for the Leg O’ Mutton and Welsford lateen.

P         cUSTOM POLYSAILS We will construct special sails as requested for PDRacer owners and builders who have a hull number assigned. Our discounted rate for three-sided sails is $2.50 sq. ft. For four-sided sails, the discounted rate is $2.65 sq. ft. Overseas customers find that finished sails cost considerably less to ship than the much heavier kits. Battens, reefs, windows and sleeves cost extra. Call Dave at 317 385-3444 or email polysail@polysail.com for a quote on a custom sail or sails.

§        BRIGHT WHITE POLYSAIL KITS (OUR BEST) We have two discounted PDRacer/PolySail Kits that contain everything you need to make a taped or sewn sail that looks and performs like one of the expensive synthetics. These kits include all the components listed below each kit and provide ample materials for your sail project. We do notdo not offer partial kits, but you can order additional items for inclusion in your kit when shipped.

If you live in the continental US, shipping costs are automatically added to the kit price when you order through PayPal using the “Shopping Cart” buttons.  If you are outside the continental US, including Alaska, Hawaii, AND OTHER us POSSESSIONS, PLEASE email a request for a SAIL or Sail KIT cost quote.  We ship international orders by Priority Mail International (6-10 days). We encourage overseas customers to order finished sails rather than kits because of the cost of mailing the heavier kits versus the lighter finished sails. Within the continental US, we ship by USPS Parcel Post (usually 4-5 days) or by USPS Priority Mail (2-3 days) if the price is within $1.00 of the Parcel Post cost.

FINISHED POLYSAILS

Finished PolySails come ready to attach to your mast and/or spars with zip ties. These sails are hand cut to size, darted (if necessary), and taped. Next, the corners are reinforced and the edges and corners are stitched with either Dabond V46 or V-69 polyester sailmaker’s thread. Finally, the corners and edges are grommeted prior to shipment. All corner grommets are heavy-duty, #3, 7/16” ID spurred grommets placed behind high tensile strength reinforcing lines under sail edges to resist tearing out. Please indicate your choice for the reinforcement trim color in the “trim colors” window when you order using the PayPal Shopping Cart buttons. You also have a choice of sail weights you can choose for white PolySailsthe white sails. Colored sails have specified weights already. The 5.2 oz. weight is the default weight for everyday use and a longer-lasting cruising sail. The 3.1 oz. sail can be ordered if weight is a consideration, such as for racing. We endeavor to make each of these sails pleasing to the eye and competitive in performance and durability with sails costing from four to ten times as much.

BRIGHT WHITE POLYSAIL KITS (OUR BEST)

All our White PolySail Kits now come with Fiskars scissors as well as a utility knife. Several of our customers have mentioned that, with the cost of fuel, the price of our kits is generally lower than they would spend driving to stores and/or trying to order the same materials and components online. Many have also noted the convenience of having all sailmaking materials available in one package. Once constructed, however, it is the appearance and performance of their PolySails that customers most value—not to mention the pride in making their own sail(s).

PolySail International’s

MAYDAY Fund

Until further notice, proceeds of this fund and donors’ names will be delivered twice a week through PayPal to the Sail Doctor to help him get his land yacht Homer repaired and to assist him to get back on a firm footing. Here is his story:

Now as to my being marooned here....
Asheville, my ancestral homeland, was my destination [from Townsend, WA]; but I did not intend to be  broken down and impoverished when I arrived....and knowing no one....

It was my intention actually to come here by way of Cedar key, but the blown head gasket... major motor breakdown... of my 22' land yacht, Homer... necessitated my making my port of destination much sooner than desired....
For nearly 2 months I semi-languished in Anderson, SC trying to fix Homer, make connections and wait out the Winter before heading up into the mountains...

Ultimately, I was compelled to set out with the motor as-was because I only had just enough money left to pay for the gas to get up the hill... and time had run out in Anderson, SC. I barely made it...

My situation is awkward, to say the least.... hard aground on a residential side street where I fetched up by chance.... lacking the funds to have Homer hauled and repaired... if repair is even possible... he may need a whole new motor.

So my  immediate needs are: a safe, longer place to tie up within down hill coasting distance of my present location, funds for a haul out, and alternative transportation; some kinda dinghy, if ya catch my drift..... safe storage of my cargo is a concern, my sea dog and sea cat, another... It is quite a pickle of a riddle....

Thank you for your contributions!

Our white polytarp material is canopy grade and is suitable for many other uses, including boat covers, camping and picnic ground covers, tent flies, wood and machinery covers, temporary roof covers, landscaping projects, and play projects. All our tarps are made from U-V protected, washable, waterproof, shrink proof, rot proof, rip-resistant white polyethylene. Seams are electronically welded for strength, corners are reinforced and grommeted, and all edges are likewise reinforced and grommeted with rust resistant grommets approximately every 18-36 inches. Our tarps are 3.1 (lightweight) to 5.2-6.0 oz. (regular) to 8.0 oz. (heavy) per true sq. yd. (not the smaller sailmaker’s yard), and are made of a 12 x 12 to 14 x 14 per sq. in. inner layer scrim of woven polyethylene strands covered by outer layers of sheet polyethylene. As a sail material, white polytarp resists punctures, tears, and blowouts. Its resiliency allows it to stretch in a breeze yet return to its original shape when pressure lessens, making it an ideal sheet sail material.
